Preparing your manuscript for submission

inSTEMM Journal aims to make submitting your manuscript as simple as possible. With that in mind, we impose few formatting or style requirements on initial submissions. There is no limit on manuscript length, but authors are encouraged to present their results in a concise manner.

All manuscripts must:

  1. Begin with a title of less than 30 words.
  2. List all authors and their institutions, including clearly identifying the corresponding author(s) and providing an email address to which post-publication correspondence and queries should be sent.
  3. Contain an abstract of less than 400 words.
  4. Begin with an introduction that states the issues addressed, explains the background, and lists the primary achievements in the manuscript in a manner that is clearly written and comprehensible to non-experts.
  5. End with a short concluding paragraph that summarises the key contributions made by the paper.
  6. List all funding sources related to the work described and fully explain any competing or conflicting interests of the author(s).
  7. Provide references with sufficient bibliographic detail that they can be easily found by reviewers. It is highly encouraged that authors include DOIs or URLs for all references in the manuscript. No specific reference format is required at the stage of initial submission.
  8. Provide images/figures in a widely-accessible format and with sufficient quality to be easy to read and understand.
  9. Be submitted in either Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or PDF format.

Beyond these requirements, authors are free to structure their manuscript in the way they think best showcases their results while providing sufficient detail for others to reproduce or understand their work.

During the submission process, authors are requested to submit a cover letter explaining the key contributions of the manuscript to the editor and reviewers, and justifying its suitability for publication in the inSTEMM Journal.
